Shelly

My Madeleine pans officially fulfilled their destiny today :)
Baking with them got me thinking: I wonder if there are other foods you could "madeleine"?
Jello? Meat? Pretty much any moldable food is an option...

Dooming these pans to the sole purpose of cookie baking is obviously overlooking their potential.

There's a Hippo in my Chocolate

My cousin Chris brought us back some chocolate from his recent trip to Germany. The chocolate was good, but I was more excited about the sparkly blue hippo "prize" inside the chocolate.
American chocolate is such a let-down after this.

Nobs

Cribbage is a lost art.
My grandparents, sensing this, have taught all but one of their grandchildren *cough* Jillian *cough* the skills to both succeed in the game, and pass the torch onto others of our generation.
We may not have much going for us, but damn it, we know how to add to 15!

Lid

This basketball has been sitting in my yard since about 2001. Every time it snows, it gets a little white cap. I don't know why, but I'm enamored with this occurrence...

Scavenger Hunt

Today was my first day of art class- YAY! I've been pretty stoked about it for a while now...
Pictured is my supply list- the items that I have to go hunt down and purchase in order to make "real" art.
We'll see if I have any luck finding this stuff :)

Madeleines

I finally own a Madeleine pan! I don't know why it's taken me this long to acquire such a magnificent piece of bake-ware. Is it vain to bake cookies with the same name as you?

it was on sale at Target

In case you were wondering, the lemon slice lights up, and the Hello Kitty figurine is the "Snooze" button.
I don't think I've ever owned anything quite this cool before.

Butterfingers

What the heck, Vikings. Could we have possibly dropped the ball a little less?!
At least it got exciting there for a little bit...
And yes, that is a miniature christmas tree.

That Sounds Dirty

Conversation Hearts have really gone down-hill. Tweet Me? Really?
Who say's crap like that?!

What?

The official game of Gilly.

Herbs

I feel shitty.
It's been a while since I've been sick, and now I remember why it's something I try to avoid...
Pictured are my "natural" cold-fighters: Tea (weird mug optional), Echinacea, Elderberry, and Airborne.

Gil

My goldfish has been with me since Halloween...
He was a part of my costume, and I've been stuck with him ever since.
Normally I'm not that great at keeping fish alive, but ol' Gil has really hung in there so far...
We just take it one day at a time :)

Free Cake

Note to self: Use "Googly" eyes at Starbucks, get free cupcake.

Fiesta

We ended a long day in Denver with a trip to Casa Bonita.
There's no logical reason to ever visit Casa Bonita, but then again, Casa Bonita isn't really a logical place...
I think that's what makes it so appealing.
Well that, and the strong mexican food/chlorine smell that greets you as you walk through the door.

Try Not To Trip...

This beauty is attached to the park n' ride at Tiffany Square. It's a real treat trying to coax jello-legs up a steep concrete slope at the end of a Long run...

Fatty

This is Barkley. He's a 100lb golden retreiver that thinks he's a 2lb lap-dog...
We've been spending the week together while his owners are in the Bahamas :)

Move Over Julia

I LOVE this cookbook.
Not that I wasn't enjoying my slow meander through "Mastering The Art of French Cooking",but there's only so much excitement you can have towards a cookbook that contains recipes for aspics.

A Little Bit of Christmas Died Today

One of the Poinsettas drowned at the store...
I guess 2 gallons of water a day was just too much for the little guy?!

Hollandaise

What do you do with a fresh batch of Hollandaise sauce just lying around? You make Eggs Benedict of course! Don't ask me why I had the sudden urge to just whip-up some Hollandaise sauce, but I did, and I'm glad. This was dinner :)

Legos

Every Tuesday I get to babysit two of my most favorite little guys. They have an abundance of toys, but somehow we always end up playing with the bucket of Legos. Until today, I never realized how creepy/hilarious the faces on the "Lego Guys" are! What kind of emotions are supposed to be conveyed by these faces?
Constipation?

Pizza and Beer

I drive by this Old Chicago sign almost every day.
Every month or so a new slogan (that includes the words "pizza" and "beer") is displayed on the over-head, and they're all pretty witty. For example, their Christmas sign read: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Comet, Cupid, Pizza, and Beer.
Stupid? Yes. Fun? Yes.
I can't help but be excited for the next installation :)

An Inspired Idea

I got a chance to watch this movie again. I decided that one of my life goals is to eventually have a chalkboard wall in my room like the guy in the movie does.
It's just an inspired idea...a wall that you're supposed to draw all over?!
And when you get tired of whatever you drew, you can erase and draw something else. Magical.

Heart Attack

Today we did the 8 minute heart-rate test at the Coronado track. The goal is to find out your maximum heart-rate and your average heart-rate. The numbers above were my "results" from this little endeavor...

BRAS

Made a trip up to the Black Rose Acoustic Society (or B.R.A.S., as it says on the back of their folding chairs) to hear my cousin Adam play tonight. The place was PACKED. The headliner for the night? Mike Compton, who won a Grammy for his work on the "O Brother Where Art Thou" soundtrack. That guy just attacks the mandolin in a both a terrifying and inspirational way... that's the best I can describe it.
The pic is a little iffy due to the fact I took it in a dark room with my Blackberry- but it gets the point across.

art.

I decided to sign-up for an art class today at Bemis. I used to go when I was little... but it's been about 10 years since I've been back. Wednesday mornings for the next 8 weeks are now going to be a little more creative :)

Kabocha

400 degrees, 40 minutes...freakin' good.
Besides squash, the day also included a trip to Ute Pass Elementary, and a few rounds of beer pong with old friends from Corpus. Of course, I only had my camera for the squash part. Oh well.. at least I laid it out in a pretty design...

Cripple Creek

The sis and I ventured up to Cripple Creek today.
Highlights include: heat lamps, christmas lights, snow-covered mountains, a beautiful sunset, and creepy individuals...
It was a fun Tuesday.

Tarahumara

I finally started this book.
It's about time I read this and form my own opinion on it. "Born To Run" is quite the controversial piece of literature in the running world these days... almost what the "Da Vinci Code" is to the Catholic church :)

Controversial Chapstick

Today, a lovely photo of my Amphipod.
If you look closely, you'll notice a chapstick tucked away in the cute little amphi-pocket.
This very tube of chapstick was cause for mild harassment today, due to the fact that someone thinks chapstick is an irrational item to carry during a run.
I beg to differ.

Moccasins

I ended up wearing my slippers all day today... to work, to babysit, to Chick-Fil-A.
I simply walked out of the house without thinking twice about what was on my feet... Getting up at 5:45 in the morning makes you do things like that.

And So It Begins...

I decided to kick things off with not one, but three photos. I tend to get excited about resolutions, so there may be a couple posts right off-the-bat that consist of more than one picture...
As time progresses however, I am sure I will grow less enthusiastic and my posts will resume to the resolved "photo a day" format.
Happy New Year!
